MEDICI, Leopold de' (1617-1675). Autograph letter to Ambassador Ricardi, n.p., 28 October 1648, on the interests of his sister-in-law, the Grand Duchess (Vittoria della Rovere, wife of Ferdinando II de' Medici), informing him he will write further on this subject after reflection, and telling Ricardi that his activity and zeal are praiseworthy, half page, small folio.
Cardinal Leopoldo de'Medici was a pupil of Galileo and founding president of the Accademia del Cimento, for whom Ricardi frequently acted. As heiress to the Duchy of Urbino, the Grand Duchess had interests of her own; her extreme piety meant that she was often at odds with her husband, particularly over the upbringing of their son, the future Cosimo III, born in 1642.
