SAVIGNY, Friedrich Carl von (1779-1861). Autograph annotations to Georg Jacob Friedrich Meister. Principia Iuris Criminalis Germaniae Commnis. Göttingen: Dieterich, 1798 (third edition), EXTENSIVELY ANNOTATED BY SAVIGNY on approximately 156 pages, 8vo, a number of the annotations crossed through, perhaps after transcription, contemporary half sheep.
Savigny's commentary, which begins on p.164 on the section 'De Iniuriis' is significantly critical, both of Meister's conclusions ('ganz falsch als Art der rapina betrachtete') and of his reasoning ('es ist wahr, aber worauf?').
Savigny had attended some of the lectures of G.J.F. Meister (1755-1832) at the University of Göttingen in 1796. In 1803 he published Das Recht des Besitzes (The Law of Property), one of the landmarks in the history of jurisprudence.
