A Louis Philippe gilt-brass eight day striking and musical portico clock with automaton acrobat and musicians
Japy Frères. Mid 19th Century
With four reeded columns centred by a white enamel Roman dial, blued steel trefoil hands, the upper section with two further columns, with an acrobat performing on a wire between them and musicians playing instruments to the sides, all dressed in exotic costumes, the twin barrels movement with countwheel strike on bell (lacking) and stamped JAPY FRÈRES, the ebonised plinth below housing a pull-wind pinned barrel musical movement playing three tunes at will and an independent single barrel automaton movement, formerly under glass dome decorative pendulum
