A German red tortoiseshell, ebony, silver, ormolu and paste gem mounted prunkühr case
Late 17th Century
Of tabernacle form, modelled with a female figure to the cresting, flanked by figures of angels atop volute side pieces, with screaming mask mount above oval relief medallion depicting a female figure and angels atop a nimbus, with amorini below, one holding a book and the other a harp, the sides with floral vase mounts to one register and further classically-draped female figures standing on projecting scrolls to the register below, mounted with six spiral-twist columns with ormolu composite capitals, above stepped and moulded base applied with multi-coloured foil-backed gem mounts and raised on tapering square section feet; with associated later silvered repoussé dial and French eight day twin barrels movement
