The painting is sold with a certificate by Luigi Salerno, dated 20 February 1989.

As Zwollo points out (A. Zwollo, Hollandse an Vlaamse veduteschilders te Rome, Assen, 1973, p. 111), van Lint often used northern visual sources for his compositions, relying on engraved works by Anthonie Waterloo, Rembrandt as well as Jan Both for other landscapes.
