Lot Essay

Decker was probably a pupil of Salomon van Ruysdael, and his landscapes certainly show Ruysdael's influence. He painted with a close observation of nature, and occasionally collaborated with fellow artist Adriaen van Ostade, who would add figures to Decker's landscapes.
