Godefroy Dester, maître in 1774.
Exquisite little tables decorated with floral trellis parquetry in light woods like this example were a speciality of Dester and his contemporaries Mathieu-Guillaume Cramer (maître in 1771) and Roger van der Cruse dit Lacroix ('RVLC', maître in 1749).
The same distinctive stylised flower-filled trellis marquetry, so typical of Dester's oeuvre, can also be found on a commode and a secrétaire à abattant en suite, which were sold from the collections of Lord Hillingdon at Christie's, London, 29 June 1972, lots 80 and 81 (illustrated in A. Pradère, French Furniture Makers, London, 1989, pp. 330-331).
