Lot Essay

This rare and well-preserved oil on copper is quite distinctive from the better-known and more prolific oeuvre of David Teniers' son, David Teniers II. The influence of Adam Elsheimer, with whom he would have had contact during his stay in Rome between circa 1600 and 1605, can be seen in this composition, which is also characteristic in its treatment of light and shadow.
