The background to the '53 Cadillac Eldorado is described elsewhere in this catalogue, this car does however give a second reminder of the impact that these majestic convertibles must have had on the world on their introduction more than 50 years ago.

This example liveried in red paintwork and with red interior and a black top, was noted on inspection to have a handful of visible faults which included the drivers side window being broken, there being some scratches to the paintwork and the door fit not being perfectly aligned. It does however appear to have been restored at some time during its life.

As with other cars from this collection, we are not aware of its precise history only that it would have arrived in the present European collection ownership approximately 20 years ago during the main period of acquisitions and is most likely to have been purchased in America.

Similarly, its mechanical order after long term museum storage is difficult to quantify and while we anticipated that the Cadillac will be running at the time of sale, the sensible precaution of a thorough re-commissioning prior to proper use is advised.
