A COMPOSITE GERMAN ARMET
The skull, circa 1510-15, the remainder 19th Century
With broad rounded skull of one-piece construction rising to a low angular comb, embossed with broad bands of eight shallow flutes left and right, the flutes widening over the crown and diminishing at both the brow and neck, pierced with eight pairs of lace holes and with plain basal flange for turning on the gorget, bellows visor pierced with rows of slotted breathes and struck with Nuremberg mark, a pair of hinged cheek-pieces closing at the chin, flanged for the gorget, and each retaining portions of an early leather and fabric lining (the skull with internally patched early repair on one side behind the cheek-piece, the skull with numerous blade cuts on the left).
