AN ITALIAN TWO-HAND SWORD
16th Century
With long double-edged blade of flattened-hexagonal section formed with a spear point, inlaid with a copper orb mark at the forte on one side, long tapering ricasso formed with a pair of lugs each struck with an oval mark on both sides, large iron hilt comprising long straight quillons of diamond section swelling at the tips, centrally divided inner- and outer-rings chiselled with a leaf design at the quillon tips and at the centre of the rings, the écusson also chiselled with a spray of leaves in low relief, globular pommel chiselled en suite (loose), and later fluted grip bound with copper wire.
