A COMPOSITE ITALIAN RAPIER
The blade circa 1600
With long slender blade of flattened-hexagonal section stamped with a series of letters and marks within the short fuller at the forte and cut back to form a ricasso, blackened iron swept-hilt of slender bars decorated over its principal surfaces with engraved scrollwork interspersed with encrusted silver pellets and small bars, oviform pommel decorated en suite with the guard, and wire-bound grip with 'Turk's heads'.
