Two Chinese famille rose armorial dishes, circa 1735-1755
the first, decorated in the well with birds perched on tree peony next to bamboo and chrysanthemum, encircled by a foliate floral scroll around the cavetto and border panels and arms around the rim; the second, possibly decorated with the arms of Ellis, encircled by a floral bamboo border around the rim, circa 1755 -- 9 1/16in. (23.1cm.) diam. (2)

D. S. Howard in Chinese Armorial Porcelain, London, 1974, p.383, mentions that the service with the Ellis arms may have been made for William Ellis of Kidhall.
