Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1782, silver maker's mark CF
With brass turn-off cannon barrels, brass border-engraved action signed on a ribbon within an engraved design of rococo scrollwork on the left, fitted with engraved sliding cut-off on the left, inscribed 'Royal Exchange London' on an elaborate rococo ribbon on the right and the top-strap decorated with a rococo flower, engraved iron sliding trigger-guard safety-catch, figured walnut butt profusely inlaid with silver wire shells and scrollwork carrying small engraved silver flowerheads (small pieces of inlay rising on one side), silver butt-cap cast in low relief, centering on a lion recumbent on a wall, and vacant silver escutcheon, London proof marks.
