A censer with pierced cover surmounted by a seated buddhistic lion, which has panels on the sides of the vessel decorated in the same technique as those on the present censer, is illustrated by M. Goedhuis, Chinese and Japanese Bronzes, A.D. 1100-1900, London, 1989, no. 74, where the author describes the decoration as similar to the "techniques employed by skilled silversmiths".
