Late Kamakura period (early 14th century)
Sugata [configuration]: hon-zukuri, iori-mune, chu-kissaki, deep koshi-zori
Kitae [forging pattern]: flowing itame in jine
Hamon [tempering pattern]: chiefly suguha but with tendencies of ko-notare mixed with ko-gunome including ko-ashi and yo on ko-nie
Boshi [tip]: rounded suguha with hakikake
Nakago [tang]: o-suriage cut straight with later kiri file marks and three holes
Habaki [collar]: double, gold
Nagasa [length from tip to beginning of tang]: 25 7/8in. (65.6cm.) long
Motohaba [width at start of tempered edge]: 1in. (2.5cm.)
Sakihaba [width before tip]: ¾in. (1.9cm.)

In shirasaya [plain wood storage scabbard] with inscription by Sato Kanzan (1907-1978)

19th-century tachi-goshirae comprising a mokume-lacquer saya mounted with Yokoya-school shibuichi migaki-ji fittings including a sayajiri carved in sunken relief with a dragonfly, semegane formed as a butterfly, kojiri carved with butterflies in ke-bori; the tsuka fitted with fuchi-gashira carved with a bee, mantis and a stag beetle in sunken relief, bar menuki with gilt cherry blossoms; barbed rectangular shibuichi migaki-ji plate tsuba decorated with hanging gourd vines in ke-bori, inscribed Somin, 39¾in. (101cm.) long
With a certificate of registration designating this sword as the 20th Juyo token (Important sword) no. 3728 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword), dated 1971.6.1
