Lot Essay

Samain, born in Nivelles, worked in Brussels, Antwerp and Paris, exhibiting portrait busts and genre statues at the Salons in these cities. He won a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1889, and was made Chevalier of the Order of Leopold.
