A KAKIEMON DECAGONAL JAR AND COVER, late 17th Century
Decorated in various coloured enamels with a continuous scene of hibiscus issuing from rocks on which a bird perches, the shoulder with a band of stylized cloud pattern beneath an iron-red zig-zag pattern on the straight neck, motifs repeated on the slightly domed cover, disc-shaped knop finial (cover damaged)

An octagonal jar without cover but with a similar design is illustrated in colour in Hiroko Nishida, Kakiemon, Nihon toji zenshu (Chuo Koronsha, Tokyo 1977), No. 21 and Seizo Hayashiya, Kakiemon, Nihon no toji (Chuo Koronsha, Tokyo 1974), No. 5.
