A Chinese carved mother-of-pearl shell, 19th century
delicately carved in low relief with a butterfly, twin finger citron fruits and flowering cherry blossom to the base edge, rising to torture scenes to the centre, figures with wooden boards attached around their heads and a figure flung over a long carrying pole, below a scene of figures at leisure upon a bridge and within pavilions -- 9¼in. (23.5cm.) high.
