Lot Essay

A note on the frontispiece of this manuscript reads 'Its owner Sultan Bayazid son of Muhammad Khan, may (God) make his reign eternal', indicating that the manuscript belonged to the Ottoman ruler Sultan Bayazid II (AH 886-918/1481-1512 AD). Based on the seals and impressions it was already in Persian hands from the 17th century.

The date is slightly confusing. Whilst the Arabic inscription reads 754, the numbers read 802 and 804.
