William Pye was born in London in 1938 and studied at Wimbledon School of Art, 1958-61 and at the Royal College of Art, 1961-65. His work from the 1960s was concerned with the traditional medium of stone and metal, and is represented by important public commissions such as the monumental Zemran (1971), located on London's South Bank. The reflective qualities of metal has led the artist to his mature work in which he employs water as the principle medium and he has worked on numerous important public and private commissions throughout Europe.
