Contemporary half-calf, spine gilt in compartments, morocco labels (gilt and morocco labels flaking, extremities rubbed). Provenance: Diaghilev-Lifar (sold Sotheby's, Monaco, November 1975, lot 208).
FIRST EDITION. THE DIAGHILEV LIFAR COPY OF POSSIBLY THE FIRST BOOK OF CHILDREN'S GAMES PUBLISHED IN RUSSIA, with illustrations of the games described and the equipment used to play them. Divided into sections according to whether the game is played indoors or out, and whether it requires a ball, blindfold or merely imagination and quick wittedness. The book aims to provide games for adults as well as children, and includes some that can be enjoyed by 'educated society'.
