A COLLECTION OF POPULAR WORKS BY GENERAL SKOBELEV, who distinguished himself in many battles of the Patriotic War against Napoleon. Skobelev wrote under the pseudonym 'the Russian invalid'; during the course of his military career he was wounded in the chest and lost two fingers on one hand, also crushing a third. Later in his career his other arm was amputated, during which operation, it is said, he sat on a drum and dictated his final orders - a scene illustrated in the first engraving of this volume. He was richly rewarded for his bravery, receiving several prestigious awards for his acts of daring. His stories were immensely popular, especially amongst soldiers. Includes a bibliography of I.N. Skobelev's works and a selection of contemporary reviews, by N.I. Grech amongst others.
