FIRST EDITION. VERY GOOD COPY OF ONE OF SNEGIREV'S MOST FAMOUS WORKS, and an important early study of Russian folk culture. The Academy of Sciences awarded him the Demidov Prize in 1840 for this work, and Nicholas I a diamond signet ring. Snegirev, who was one of the most eminent academic and literary figures in the age of Pushkin, was later involved in the publication of the monumental Antiquities of the Russian State, for which he wrote some of the text.
