The rectangular top with geometric border above a dentilled frieze, above a pair of glazed doors with geometric astragals, enclosing a row of pigeon-holes above two adjustable painted shelves, the lower section with a hinged fall-front enclosing a fitted interior with pigeon-holes, drawers and columns surrounding a central door with arched trellis, above four graduated drawers flanked by canted columnar angles, on shaped bracket feet with trellis and scrolls, the metalwork apparently original, five panes cracked

The cabinet has a dentilled cornice and glazing bars that are Roman-mosiaced in medallion-cornered tablets; while its Doric-pillared secretaire has truss-scrolled feet that relate to patterns in Thomas Chippendale's, Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1754. Its feet are further enriched with flowered-trellis fretting, and its cornice by a Chinese-railed fret. The form of this pillared secretaire relates in particular to that of a desk in the Victoria & Albert Museum that bears the date 1751 and ink signature of the Lancaster cabinet-maker David Wright (D. Fitz-Gerald, Georgian Furniture, London, 1969, no. 47). The handle pattern was published in T. R. Crom An Eighteenth Century English Brass Hardware Catalogue, Florida, 1994, p. 34, no. 239.
