Portrayed frontal, half-length, his right hand raised in benediction, bearing a staff with cruciform finial and supporting the platter (which probably included his decollated head originally), his long tousled hair parted in the centre, his features highlighted with white brushstrokes, the periphery of his halo defined in red, the raiment of skins unusually rendered in blue, the himation in cinnabar, against an ochre background with a raised border
