Russian writer, senator and father of the Dekabristy N. M. and A. M. Murav'ev, he was a member of the Ministry of Popular Education and Chancellor of Moscow University, the founder of the Botanic Garden and Museum of Natural History
This is after a rectangular oil portrait by Jean-Laurent Mosnier depicting Count Murav'ev, in the Hermitage. A later copy by Themire, signed and dated 1821, is illustrated in G. N. Komelova/G. A.
