Lot Essay

General Fok, born to a German family in Russian service, joined the Bombadier regiment in 1775, saw service in the Russo-Turkish and the Finnish wars of 1788-90, and the wars against Napoleon, and promoted lieutenant general in 1807. Awarded the Order of St. George (3rd class) after the battle of Borodino, St. Vladimir (2nd class), St. Anne (1st class with diamonds), and others.
