FIRST EDITION. "Brackenridge gives an account of the fur trade, principally of Manuel Lisa's operations, and describes the expedition to the Yellowstone in 1807, the formation of the Missouri Fur Company, and the expedition to the forks of the Missouri. The second part of the above, Journal of a Voyage up to the Missouri River, describes Brackenridge's trip up the Missouri with Lisa to a newly established post of the Missouri Fur Company, upstream from the Mandan villages" (Wagner-Camp-Becker). The Louisiana Gazette published a series of Brackenridge's essays describing the Louisiana country. VERY RARE IN BOARDS: according to American Book Prices Current only a rebacked copy in boards has sold in the last thirty years (Bonham's, 24 June 1997). Cuming's Sketches of a Tour of the West Country (lot 51) was issued by the same publisher and is in a complementary binding.
