The poem can be translated as follow:
'Some time ago she descended from Heaven to Caijing household,
Carrying her basket of a hundred herbal flowers.
It would be pointless to say she was just another deity gathering plants
How could anyone mistake Magu for another?'
Magu is supposed to have lived during the Han dynasty. She is one of the numerous female taoist deities. She symbolizes longevity and is often displayed during birthday celebrations. She is known for her compassion and skills with magic herbs.
Magu is known as a kindhearted goddess who appears at the birthday party of Xiwangmu, the Queen Mother of the West which takes place once every ten thousand years and which is attended by all the other gods. The deer, lu, represented with her on this panel, is a homophone for a character meaning 'accomplishment' and 'wealth'. The herbs and peaches in the basket are symbolic gifts of health and vitality.
