CIRCA 1725, GILDER'S 88. TO BOTH PIECES
The six raised gilt ribs dividing recessed panels painted in the manner of J.G. Höroldt with harbour scenes, finely dressed merchants at discussion and promenading, a man carrying a package, further figures and barrels on quaysides before distant ships and beneath cloudy skies, the top of the circular cover with interlocking gilt scrollwork, the side with a broad gilt band (minute chip to footrim of caddy and rim of cover, some wear to shoulders of caddy, minor wear to top of cover)
