The rosewood backboard of typical shield shaped form, the hollow reverse accommodating the pendulum, arched pendulum aperture, the brass case with four ring turned corner pillars, glazed side doors, the front surmounted by a pierced cast brass fret depicting Faith, Hope and Love, the side frets depicting two lions bearing the coat-of-arms of Amsterdam and inscribed NU ELCK SYN SIN, the faded red velvet covered brass dial with brass winged cherub spandrels to the brass hour chapter ring inscribed Claas Jansz. Coogies/Wormerveer with sword hilt half hour markers, single brass hand, above a quarter hour chapter ring with half quarter markers with brass arrow hand, the short duration brass movement with ringed baluster pillars, wheels with bifurcated spokes, verge escapement, Dutch countwheel strike on two bells above surmounted by the figure of Pallas Athena, the alarm mounted to the right side of the movement; four brass weights, pendulum

This special type of 'Zaanse' clock with a brass case is relatively rare. In his book Dutch Antique Domestic Clocks Sellink refers to these clocks as being the Alkmaarder type.
