Lot Essay
A primo pensiero for a painting of the same subject, of which at least four variants are known. The drawing is closest in composition to the painting on copper in the Gemäldegalerie, Dresden (see D. Scaglietti Kelescian, Alessandro Turchi detto l'Orbetto 1578-1649, Milan, 1999, p. 30, fig. 33). The other painted versions are in a German private collection (see Scaglietti Kelescian, op. cit., pp. 174-75, no. 49), the Musei Civici, Padua (inv. 482), and a private collection in Venice. Another drawing of Lot and his Daughters is in the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, Munich (Scaglietti Kelescian, op. cit., fig. 62).
Dr. Erich Schleier confirmed the attribution to Turchi to the present owner.
