Lot Essay

At the time of the Mottahedeh sale these arms were thought to be those of Anceau de Lavelanet of Languedoc. They have since been attributed to Charles-Louis-Mathurin Aulnette du Vauenet (1716-1764), a Knight in the Order of Saint-Louis and an officer for the Compagnie des Indes. We would like to thank Antoine Lebel for his help identifying these arms. More information can be found in his forthcoming book, expected in 2008.
