Shown standing alertly with neck upright and ears pricked back, the head modelled with deep flared nostrils and slight indentations above the sharp brows, the open mouth showing its teeth, the body and separate arched tail covered with a brick-red pigment and the halter painted white

This horse is of early Western Han type like those unearthed at Yangjiawan, near Xianyang.

The result of Oxford thermoluminescence test no. 766e28 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
