Surmounted by the Three Graces, stamped to the base REDUCTION MECHANIQUE, atop a triform pedestal with Latin inscribed panel to two sides and a dial, inscribed F. BARBEDEINNE/PARIS, to the other, the angles with paw feet above a Greek-key frieze and stepped base

Lot Essay

Illustrated in the 1886 catalogue of the Parisian bronze-founder F. Barbedienne, the caryatid nymphs are two-fifth reductions of Germain Pilon's celebrated 'Graces' executed for the monument of Henri II (d. 1566), which has been displayed at the Louvre since 1816.
