Lot Essay

Only about one hundred and twenty pieces of Ottweiler porcelain survive; most are in the Saarland Museum at Saarbrücken, and a small number are in private collections. This particular tureen is most unusual with it vibrant palette and bouquets of fruit and vegetables, unlike other recorded pieces which are predominately decorated with either figural or flowers. For a lobed circular tureen with similar pierced handles, see Hermann Jedding, Europäisches Porzellan (Munich, 1971), Vol. I, p. 582.
