Of rhomboid form, the turquoise glass on the face trailed and marvered with white, blue, green and manganese waves, the reverse with a moulded bird, considerable iridescence on the moulded side, repaired breaks

Lot Essay

There are very few decorated glass tiles that have survived from the Early Islamic period. Among them are fragments of mosaic glass tiles in Berlin and in the Metropolitan Museum, New York (Stefano Carboni, Glass of the Sultans, New York, 2001, no.61, p.148).
