SIGNED SHAH MUHAMMAD AL-KATIB AL-MASHHADI, TIMURID IRAN, DATED AH 886/1481-2 AD
Hadith, Arabic and Persian manuscript on variously coloured paper, 9ff. each with 7ll. of flowing black nasta'liq all contained in gold-specked panels with double ruled gold interlinear rules, each folio with two such panels with 4ll. of diagonal nasta'liq, laid down within gold and polychrome margins on differently coloured gold-speckeled paper, opening bifolio with gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece and text arranged in horizontal lines, colophon signed Shah Muhammad al Katib al Mashhadi and dated AH 886/1481-2 AD, some pages remargined, small areas of holing and staining mostly restricted to the margins, in light brown moroccco with gold stamped borders and green cloth doublures

Lot Essay

The only scribe recorded as SHah Muhammad al-Mashhadi is a poet with the pen-name Wathiqi. His recorded work is dated between AH 963/1555-56 AD and AH 976/1568-69 AD. He cannot therefore be the same.
