Dragons are regularly depicted on Timurid Pottery, copied from the Chinese originals. The present dragon however has no Chinese precedent and is a complete invention of the Iranian potter.
The bowl is typical of pottery that has been attributed to Tabriz in the late Timurid period. It has the wide base ring and, to the eye, a high quartz content, covered with a high shine glassy glaze.
