OTTOMAN TURKEY, SECOND HALF 18TH CENTURY
Of rounded form rising from splayed foot and tapering slightly before the slightly everted neck, with simple scrolling handle, the body decorated in yellow and blue on a white ground with reciprocal drop-shaped panels outlined in yellow and containing blue scrolling and floral motifs, above this two minor bands of scrolling flowering vine, crackelure in the glaze, hair cracks

Lot Essay

A number of jugs with similar decoration are known (see for example Sebnem Akalin and Hulya Yilmaz Bilgi, Delights of Kutahya, Istanbul, 1997, nos.40-44, pp.62-65). The present mug however, particularly in this scale, is very unusual indeed to find from Kutahya.
