Each with a drop-shaped body extending up to tubular neck, decorated with four cusped blue oval panels each filled with gold gilt interlaced floral designs and arabesques, a band of two similar pendant panels around the mouth, a similar band of meandering vine around the foot

Lot Essay

Various options have been suggested for the origin of these bottle vases and other vessels in the same style. The recent disappearance of one at our South Kensington salerooms bearing the Arabic letter sin on the underside confirms that they are products of the Samson workshop in France.
