Each with a central nasta'liq quatrain on a ground of floral illumination, surrounded by panels of smaller nasta'liq written horizontally and diagonally, with gold interlinear rules or strapwork panels, small panels of gold and polychrome illumination between some panels, laid down between gold and polychrome rules on cream borders with floral illumination, versos similar with nasta'liq couplets surrounded by borders of calligraphy and illumination, one of the borders cream, the other blue, both with gold illumination, one panel with the name of Hussein Khan Shamlu and dated AH 1007, some staining and smudging

Lot Essay

One side of this album leaf comprises Persian quatrains and opening couplets from ghazals. The central quatrain is attributed to: navvab sultan hasan mirza valid-e padshah-e jannat makan shah sultan Muhammad rast (It is his Highness Sultan Hasan Mirza, son of the King, whose place is in Paradise, Shah Sultan Muhammad).

The verso includes Persian quatrains and the inscription: dar kitab-khana-ye navvad-e 'adalat shi'ar 'alisha'n wa vali-ye molk-e khorassan husayn shamlu semat-e tahrir yaft sana 1007 (It was written in the library of his Highness, excelling in Justice, the one with exalted rank and the Governor of the Province of Khorassan, Husayn Khan Shamlu in the year 1007 (1598-99 AD)).

The other folio similarly includes Persian quatrains and ghazals and on one side the inscription: dar ketab-khana-ye navvab-e namdar-e 'ali tahrir yaft (It was written in the library of the Illustrious, exalted Nawwab (Governor)).
