Gouache heightened with gold on paper, Layla sits on her pile of nine brightly coloured mattresses as Ibn Salam, her husband, falls from it, to the right of the composition, Layla's handmaidens sit on a balcony and another servant enters the room holding a gold dish, above and below 2ll. of black nasta'liq arranged in four columns in cloud bands on gold ground with floral polychrome illumination, the miniature with minor areas of creasing and smudging, verso with 10ll. of nasta'liq in alternating horizontal and vertical panels in four columns, the intersticies with gold and polychrome illumination
