Gouache heightened with gold on paper, numerous soldiers wearing brightly coloured, gold-embroidered robes, stand around as Alexander cradles the dying Dara, two soldiers throw their helmets off before them, three figures look on from beyond the purple landscape, above and below 2ll. of nasta'liq on gold floral ground arranged in four columns, small areas of flaking or smudging of paint, the reverse with 10ll. of nasta'liq in alternating horizontal and diagonal bands arranged in four columns, the interstices with polychrome floral decoration on gold ground, the text panel on the reverse held in place with brown tape
