This form of antiquarian gothic octagon table was popularised during William IV's reign by the architect A.W.N. Pugin (d.1852), whose 'Gothic Furniture in the Style of the 15th and 16th centuries, was published in 1835. The Soho firm of William Bertram & son, established in Dean Street in 1830, traded as antique dealers, upholsterers and cabinet makers.
