Lot Essay

The early works of Fadi Yazigi were very colourful, but the stress of daily life took its toll and this is reflected in his paintings, which for a long time went though a solely black and white phase.
Yazigi was greatly inspired by his invitation from the Delfina Foundation to be the artist in residence in London, representing the Middle East. His paintings dating from this period onwards show a return to colour. The figures he depicts are not children, they are adults, but with young-spirited hearts. In painting them, he tries to capture the essential good nature of the people he meets in his city.
