KOCH, Heinrich Hermann Robert (1843-1910). "Zur Untersuchung von pathogenen Organismen", pp.1-48, 14 photo-micrographic plates at end of volume. Garrison-Morton 2495.1: 'Koch's description of his methods of growing bacterial cultures in gelatine solutions, making films of bacteria on cover slips and fixing them by gentle heat, and staining slides differentially by aniline. These methods are the bases on which bacteriology largely rests.'
KOCH, H.H.R. "Zur Aetiologie des Milzbrandes", pp.49-79. Garrison-Morton 5167: Koch 'did much to prove that infectious diseases are caused by living reproductive microorganisms. The postulates suggested by Koch on this occasion had fundamental importance and have become the bases on which bacteriology largely rests. The paper also marks the beginning of exact knowledge of bacterial infectious diseases'.
KOCH, H.H.R. "Ueber Desinfection", pp.234-282. Garrison-Morton 5636.1: 'Koch showed that mercuric chloride was surperior to carbolic acid, and that live steam surpassed hot air in sterilizing power'.
KOCH & Gustav WOLFFHÜGEL. "Untersuchungen über die Desinfection mit heisser Luft", pp.301-321.
KOCH, H.H.R., Georg GAFFKY & Friedrich LÖFFLER. "Versuche über die Verwerthbarkeit heisser Wasserdämpfe zu Desinfectionszwecken", pp. 169-340.
All 5 papers in: Mittheilungen aus dem Kaiserlichen Gesundheitsamte, published by Dr. Struck. Berlin: Norddeutsche Buchdruckerei und Verlagsanstalt, 1881. Volume I only, 4° (304 x 222mm). (Lightly browned, occasional marginal thumb-soiling). Contemporary half cloth (some soiling and staining, rubbed). Provenance: Dr. Reichardt (stamp on title) -- Deutsche Akademie der Landwirtschaftswissenschaften, Berlin (stamp on title).
ASSOCIATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY DR. STRUCK, director of the Kaiserliche Gesundheitsamt, to Dr. Reichardt on free endpaper. In 1880, Koch was appointed advisor of the Kaiserliche Regierungsamt (Imperial Department of Health) where he worked with two assistants, Friedrich Löffler and Georg Gaffky. 'Their main assignments, under the Health Department's director, Heinrich Struck, were to develop reliable methods for isolating and cultivating pathogenic bacteria and to gather bacteriological data and establish scientific principles bearing on hygiene and public health ... As publishing medium for the Health Department's scientific findings, Struck instituted in 1881 the Mittheilungen aus dem Kaiserlichen Gesundheitsamt' (DSB). Gedeon pp.316-18.
