A Shibayama school netsuke signed Soichi, late 19th Century
decorated in roiro lacquer and glass, the wood is carved to simulate a rock on which three ants and a caterpillar are crawling, signed on an aogai rectangular reserve; together with a wood netsuke of a puppy, seated with an awabi shell beneath its paws, its teeth pulling at a string which passes through the shell, eyes inlaid -- 1 9/16in. (4cm.) and 1 3/8in. (3.4cm.) (2)
