A square inverted and tapering Komai-style vase, Meiji Period (1868-1912)
decorated with gilt overlay on iron with various scenes: a fisherman pushing his boat past a pavilion and waterwheel on the shore; two women travellers with a porter, Mount Fuji in the distance; a bridge crossing a river with Torii and temples on the opposite bank; and a courtier on horseback surrounded by his footmen travelling towards Mount Fuji, between bands of karakusa and another of cash-design, attached carved wood stand, the mouth of the vase with a later wood cover with carved bone finial -- 16 7/8in. (43.2cm.) high.
